Keweenaw Pride will be hosting a discussion on gender, for
Transgender Day of Remembrance. This day is set aside to memorialize those
who are killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice.

Our goal is to create a discussion on gender, and what it truly means to you.
You don't have to be questioning or even supportive of the GLBTA community.
We just want to get you to think, what does it really mean to be male? or female?
What if you don't feel you fit into this binary naming scheme? What if you
follow certain traits that are classically labeled masculine or feminine?

Media presentations will accompany the discussion.
Cookies and drinks also be served.

Happy National Coming Out Day - 2008

NCOD: Chalking Circle October 10th, Coming Out Stories October 13th

03 10 2008

National Coming Out Day (NCOD) is a day celebrated each year, to mark the important point in every Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Ally person's life: Coming Out. It is technically on October 11th, but that is the weekend this year so we are having the events on the Friday before and Monday after.

Each year, Keweenaw Pride creates a chalking circle by the MUB, so that those who are comfortable in their sexuality can come sign and show their support for the community.

We implore all to come and take part; you don't have to be GLBT to come out, our Allies are terribly important to us regardless of how actively they support the community (though we do love the avid supporters a lot!)

Along with this, we are entreating people to wear red shirts all day, to create a visible presence of those who support the day and may or may not be able to come sign the circle.

And last but not least, on Monday the 13th, we will be having a Coming Out Story discussion in the DHH studylounge/ballroom. Students will be telling their stories in a relaxed atmosphere, open to questions and
comments of those who attend. And once again, Allies will also be telling their stories.

CHALKING CIRCLE: October 11th, ALL DAY, MUB CIRCLE

COMING OUT DISCUSSION: October 13th, 7:00 pm to ??? DHH Ballroom

(In case of Rain...IT WON'T RAIN!...the chalking will be inside Fisher with markers on paper.)

Career Fair GLBTA Displays

03 10 2008

During the career fair, Keweenaw Pride will be placing out little display cards, for those companies that have:

- Sexual orientation in their non-discrimination policy

- Gender identity in their non-discrimination policy

- health coverage to employee's domestic or same-sex partners

So be on the lookout, to see which companies you REALLY want to work for!

October 7th up at the SDC...be there or be jobless!

Support Group

29 09 2008

Keweenaw Pride is running a GLBTA support group once again this semester. If you're at the point where you just aren't quite comfortable enough to go to meetings, aren't quite sure if you actually are GLBT, you just had a friend or family member come out to you, or just need someone to talk to, contact one of the e-board members to find out when and where the support group meets.

The Support group is completely 100% confidential.
